I chose to go with a bird theme, because I thought the island looked a little bit like a dove. I also chose the different species of birds, because in a way, they mean something to me. For example, I saw some of the birds in Mexico, so I wanted to put them in since I loved Mexico.
At first, I had a problem with drawing the different positions of the birds, because I've never really drawn birds before. But I practiced by going home every night, and picked out a picture of a bird to draw. I also had problem with the watercolor, but Cierra helped me.
I'm very happy and proud with this, because I really loved how the birds came out. Personally, my favorite one that I've drawn was the toucan. I also love how the coloring on the hummingbird turned out.
I chose to do this guy because i wanted to do something different. I didn't really want to do a real life person. But, it turned out to be like a guy that I saw on the bus in Mexico.
I had a bit of problem with the black/white balance. I also couldn't get the eyes just right, but I just kept trying and trying. For a while, I couldn't decide what kind of shirt to put on him, but I just went with the classic turtleneck.
I really like how this turned out, since I'm not very good at humans. My favorite part of this has to be the hair because of the highlights and shading. Overall, I think this is my best one yet.
I think that I've improved a lot with the shading. Also, I'm getting better and better at making backgrounds. I've had problems with noses in the past, so it's getting better.
The background is based on my grandma's old house, before she moved to the Gibson House (which is now basically the Moore House). Beside the fact she didn't have a light right by her house, it's pretty much the same. I did this, because I have a lot of memories of playing at her house.
I had problems with the hair, because I couldn't choose which direction it should go in (kind of ironic, eh?). Also, I had problems with the placement of the tattoos, because at first, I thought the birds were supposed to be above the 17Black, but I looked it up, and realized I had them in the wrong place, so i had to switch them around.
I'm proud of this, because I like how the shading came out (you can't see it very well in this picture.) I also like how the face turned out, because, again, I'm not good with humans. But, given the chance, I would try to redraw it.
